Content guidelines

What goes on your page

Your page is yours to fill in: photos, your logo, hours, contact details, menus, events, products, and services. These guidelines say what we can show. The Spotlight Listing Contract is the agreement. Where the two differ, the contract wins.

Photos

  • Real photographs only: your place, your food, your people, your events. Nothing made in whole or in large part by an AI image tool.
  • Send the original file, straight off your phone or camera. A screenshot, a download from Facebook, or a photo sent by text comes out too small.
  • JPEG or PNG, under 20 MB.
  • At least 1200 by 900 pixels for any photo.
  • Your main photo needs to be at least 1600 by 1200, or 1200 by 1600 if it's taken upright (portrait). Taken across (landscape) works best, because that's the shape your page shows it in.
  • No text, logos, or prices over the picture. Put those in your listing's text instead.
  • Sharp and well lit. A photo that's too blurry or too dark gets turned down.
  • You need permission from everyone who can be recognized in a photo, and from whoever took it.

Your logo

  • Send the file your designer made, ending in .svg, .eps, or .ai. It stays sharp at any size.
  • If a PNG is all you have, send one at least 1,000 pixels wide.
  • A wide version and a square version, if you have both.

Video

We don't take video yet. When we do, its file requirements go here, and everything about real photographs applies to video the same way.

Words

  • Accurate and current: your hours, prices, events, products, services, and menus are yours to keep right.
  • No reviews, testimonials, or endorsements that aren't real or don't reflect what the person actually experienced.
  • Nothing unlawful, defamatory, obscene, or harassing, and nothing that uses somebody else's work, name, or likeness without their permission.

What happens to what you send

A person looks at every photo you send before it shows on your page. If a photo doesn't pass, you'll find the reason beside it in your Library. The reasons are:

  • It isn't a real photo of your place.
  • It's too blurry or too dark to use.
  • It has text or a logo over the picture.
  • It was made by an AI tool.
  • It isn't a logo, or a logo isn't a vector file.

We may also edit what you write for style, length, formatting, and accuracy, and we may take anything down that breaks the law, uses somebody else's rights, is inaccurate or deceptive, or doesn't follow the contract or these guidelines. When we take your whole page down, we tell you by email.

We may update these guidelines from time to time. The version here is the one that applies.
